Pest control project expands
The Trust’s successful Three Peninsulas pest control project has been expanded, thanks to financial support of landowners and the Air Rescue & Community Services Trust.
The expanded project area is now known as Four Peninsulas and covers more than 800ha between Torea and Onahau Bays.
In July, 58 new AT220 traps were established in the expansion area, with more to come. The aim is to get at least 100 of the traps in the field. These new traps automatically reset up to 100 times and are effective against a wide range of species, including possums, rats and feral cats.
The expansion is a further step towards the Trust’s goal of delivering cost-effective and sustainable pest control on defendable Sounds peninsulas, with bach and land owners making annual donations to keep each network active.
